Hello world!

Welcome to Bridal Threads Blog. My name is Vicki Hasemann. I have been in the bridal world for many years. I started out working for others and then after our last child was born I went out on my own.

I started the business in our home when our son was just over a year. The decision came about because we were paying a baby sitter more for our three children than I was bringing home. Don’t get me wrong, our babysitters were worth every penny. We were very fortunate. We decided that I would work from home until they were older and we could bypass the sitters.

I started out doing custom clothing and alterations in our son’s bedroom. I got my big break on my own when our town celebrated their Centennial. I designed Can-Can Dresses for seven gals with matching vests for the guys. Once others heard about me, I was booked nine months prior to the celebration with other custom garments depicting that era.

It was not very professional to see a crib in a business setting, so we moved our son to the next door bedroom and the girls downstairs. That lasted two years and then I took over both bedrooms. One was used for consulting and fittings and the other for construction. Nine years later my husband parents retired. We moved to their farm and built a new home where I had a studio with a separate entrance. Four years later I moved the business storefront in a near by town.

At that point I started working with manufactures and their lines. I also added accessories, preservations and tuxedos. What most would call a one stop shop. And to think this all started out when I received my first sewing machine at the age of eight.

  1. Hi Vickie,

I don’t mean the dreadful pun that this statement is but what an engaging story! Not only do you have a clearly wonderful one stop shop for all things bridal but you tell a wonderful story of small business success and how to go about it in a savvy manner – out of your house, keeping overhead costs low.

Right now I’m trying to keep up with it all – the marketing class, the alterations (I’m knee deep into Homecoming at the moment) which I love doing and custom work. My kids don’t need mom as much so I’m putting in the extra time.
